Mountain Country Christmas in Lights

Capture the Christmas spirit starting on Thanksgiving Day and running through December 23 at the annual Mountain Country Christmas in Lights at the Georgia Mountain Fairgrounds in nearby Hiawassee. This spectacular light show captures the magic of the season as local churches provide Christmas music, arts and crafts vendors sell their wares, and holiday culinary classics are offered. And don’t forget the most important holiday activity of all – pictures and visits with Santa Claus. This premier holiday event in the Northeast Georgia mountains is from 6-9 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays and from 4-9 p.m. on Saturdays to accommodate the craft shows.

Christmas on the Square & Christmas Parade

Downtown Blairsville becomes a winter wonderland every year for the holiday season during Christmas on the Square, put on by the Union County Historical Society. During the holiday season the society’s museum gift shop sells a variety of handmade gifts, Christmas ornaments, and other holiday items. The fun spills out onto the square on December 4 where vendors and craftspeople gather to show off and sell their one-of-a-kind items. But you better hurry because these unique gift ideas sell quickly.

Accompanying the celebration on the square are the annual Kris Kringle Mountain Market, also on December 4, and the Blairsville Holiday Stop & Shop December 3 and 4. Both events present the perfect opportunity for your family to find gifts you won’t find anywhere else.

The annual Blairsville Christmas Parade on December 4 draws the entire community out to see floats and presentations by local organizations, churches, and schools, and culminates with an appearance by Santa Claus.

Tour of Trees

The Blairsville Community Center becomes a festival of trees throughout the month of December during the annual Tour of Trees celebration. See more than 40 trees decorated in an assortment of themes. Get into the spirit of the season when you step into this winter wonderland. The event begins December 1 and runs through December 31.

Vogel State Park Tree Lighting

Vogel State Park is a gem of the Georgia State Park system. Every year folks gather for an evening of fellowship and celebration of Christmas as the park’s Christmas tree is lit for the season. Hayrides, live music, and other activities lead up to the program and the tree lighting. There is no fee for park entry on the day of the event, December 11, and people are encouraged to bring a chair and a blanket. Unwrapped gifts for children 12 and younger will also be accepted to contribute to the Union County Sheriff’s Office holiday program.

With so many activities available for your family in the North Georgia mountains, be sure to plan your stay at Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa today. Don’t forget to treat yourself to a special holiday treat with a day at the spa while you’re here.
