Guide to the Blue Ridge Mountains
Make the most of your North Georgia Mountain vacation by exploring and experiencing the diverse and rich offerings of this gorgeous area. Just a two-hour drive from Metro Atlanta and Chattanooga, TN, turn your road trip into the ultimate Blue Ridge Mountain retreat by taking advantage of all the fun, fascinating and fulfilling attractions and activities.
Take advantage of breathtaking vantage points.
A key to taking full advantage of this glorious region is appreciating the majesty of Blue Ridge Mountain views. To access the most magnificent vantage points, you may need to put on your hiking boots. Both avid hikers and weekend trail warriors will enjoy the selection of trails and opportunities for outdoor adventure.
One of the most popular area attractions is Brasstown Bald. At 4,784 feet above sea level, Brasstown Bald attracts hikers and picnickers with a variety of trails and 360-degree views from its observation deck.
If the trail fits, hike it!
With so many trails, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Do some research before you hit the trail (literally). Selecting a trail that fits your skill level is the first step toward a lovely day in the north Georgia Mountains.
Brasstown Valley Resort & Spa is a great stepping off point to many of the area’s most traveled trails. For starters, a section of the Appalachian Trail is less than 20 miles from the resort at Dick’s Creek Gap access point.
If you don’t want to stray that far from the resort, Miller Trek starts onsite. This moderate 6.5-mile trail is easily accessible to hikers of all levels and takes you deep into the Chattahoochee National Forest. It also has a 2.5-mile loop for a less strenuous hike. The Miller Trek trailhead is near the golf course entrance. Dogs are welcome when on a leash.
Experience local culture while looking for treasure.
Finding unique treasures in local shops and antique malls is another area pastime. Visit the Hiawassee Antique Mall to browse through a beautifully displayed array of quality antiques and collectibles. As Northeast Georgia’s largest antique mall, this 10,000-square-foot retail space holds the offerings of 40 dealers and is run by knowledgeable staff eager to help you find the perfect gift or souvenir.
Looking for the quintessential Southern mountain town experience? Head to Blairsville and stroll around the historic downtown square. Many of the shops are pet friendly. Blairsville is also home to Sunshine Grocery, which was named one of the “South’s Most Charming General Stores” by Southern Living magazine.
